This is one of the most popular non-surgical cosmetic procedures performed at our Cape Coral Non-Surgical Cometic Center to create a youthful look and reverse the visible signs of aging.
What is the treatment like?
Using a tiny microneedle, a very small amount of Botox® is injected, very precisely, into several locations in the face. No sedation or local anesthetic is required and you can resume normal activities immediately. When injected in minute amounts, Botox® works to paralyze those muscles that cause you to frown. The injections take about 10 minutes, are relatively painless and the effect lasts between four to six months.
Are there any side effects?
Some patients experience a slight temporary bruising at the injection site. This can be covered with makeup. In some cases, the Botox® can migrate and cause a temporary weakness of nearby muscles. In rare cases, there can be a drooping of an eyelid or asymmetry of facial expression. The risk of any side effect depends on the muscles injected. Dr Rodgers will discuss this with you in length before your treatment. Because the effects of Botox® are completely reversible, any side effects are temporary, lasting only a few weeks.
Botox® is a prescription medicine containing 100 units of clostridium botulinum Type A toxin complex for injection. It is used for the treatment of frown lines and excessive sweating. It should be administered only by trained medical professionals. Cautions: people with neuro-muscular transmission disorders, infection at site of injection, pregnancy and lactation. Some people have reported temporary side effects; the most common being headache, eyelid droop, pain and injection site pain. Talk to your specialist about the benefits/risks of this procedure.
Botulinum toxin type A is available in two formulations in New Zealand: Dysport® and Botox®. However, their different manufacturing methods mean that they have different dose strengths. The dose required for treating an area is worked out by the physician, who will adjust for this difference in strength.
